Is she a mermaid or a myth?
Parthenope is a woman who bears the name of her city. In Greek myth, Parthenope is a mermaid who committed suicide after failing to cast a spell on Odysseus. Her body was brought by the tide to the place where the Castel dell’Ovo is now built, and after that she gave her name to the city that would later become Neapolis, Naples.
What is Partenope if not a love letter of youth?
In the film, the Parthenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples. Heat Written by Peter Gregson Performed by Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Klouda. Celeste dalla Porta embodies all the years we’ve lived and forgotten, all the pain and love we’ve endured, all the nights we’ve stayed up talking nonsense.
It is impossible not to fall for her
Sorrentino was able to capture her beauty and made a movie around it. She is more of an ideal woman, a kind of deity: too perfect to be true. How not to stare in awe when her meditative gaze turns to a smile: falling in love is so simple.
This creates a feeling of artificiality that can be distracting and annoying
So I declare: a new Diva is born, a timeless star, forever young. Except for Celeste, the film seems to be looking for only the best shots and poetic quotes. The narrative is loose and the plot is basically non-existent as the film cares more about chasing aesthetics than building a cohesive story.
I hope you might be too
It’s an artistic choice that some may love and others may hate. I love Celeste dalla Porta in this movie and I am more than happy.
